Pickpocketing is a crime that has been around for centuries, and it still exists today. In Europe, pickpockets are known as thieves who steal from people by snatching their belongings from their hands or pockets, or through distraction. While in America, pickpockets are called thieves who steal personal information such as credit cards and personal identification numbers (PINS) through distraction or by accessing an individual’s wallet or purse without consent. A study conducted on pickpocketing found that in England, there were approximately 3 million instances of theft per year while in Belgium, they recorded more than 2 million instances of theft.

These statistics show that pickpocketing is becoming more and more popular in Europe, but it is still not as prevalent as it was in the United States.

Amsterdam

The most skilled pickpockets are found in the city of Amsterdam. In 2016, there were more than 1,000 cases of pickpocketing reported. This is about three times the number of cases reported in London and four times the number reported in Paris. The most common type of pickpocketing is the armed hold-up, in which a thief will walk up to you and place one arm around your waist while they reach into their pocket with their other hand to remove your wallet or purse. In 2010, there were 2,746 reported cases of this type of pickpocketing in Amsterdam. In 2006, there were 2,848 reported cases of this type of pickpocketing in Amsterdam. The most common targets for pickpockets are tourists who visit Amsterdam by cruise ship or on a package tour which includes hotel and day trips to the city’s attractions.

Here are some tips to help you avoid pickpockets:

Stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

Stay in groups or with someone you trust.

Keep your valuables close to your body and don’t leave them unattended.

Keep your wallet in front of you when you’re carrying anything that could be valuable to a thief – like cash or credit cards.

There are many ways that pickpockets operate and they vary depending on the location of the crime and where they operate. Some of the common methods include distraction, robbery, bumping into you, using someone else’s belongings as bait, and using distraction devices like hats or bags with phones attached to them.

Does not matter where you are

Pickpocketing is a crime that has been around for centuries. It is the act of stealing someone’s possessions without their knowledge or consent. However, in Europe, this crime has been considered to be more dangerous than other places such as America.

The reason for this is because of the lack of police presence and the high number of tourists in Europe. With the increase in tourism, pickpocketing has become more popular and thus more dangerous.

Pickpocketing can happen anywhere, but it is most prevalent in crowded areas with a lot of people walking around such as city centers and tourist attractions.
