Neetu Singh/Harneetkaur/Sonia Singh is the 70s’ most famous long-standing Bollywood actress. She is a well-known Bollywood actress who appeared in Hindi films in the 1970s, 1960s and in the early 1980s.
She was accepted into the Walk of Stars, an entertainment hall of fame in Bandra Bandstand in Mumbai.
Neetu Singh began her acting career as a baby Sonia as an artist for children. At 6 years old she made her acting debut in the film Suraj.
She then played a double part in a comedy film Do Kaliyaan in the year 19668. The year 1973 was when she started her journey into adult roles with the vigilante film Rikshawala and later that same year, she made her first break with Yadon Ki Baarat.
In the following years, she appeared in numerous films such as the film based on a crime story Deewaar (1975) as well as the film thriller Khel Khel Mein (1975) and the musical movie Kabhi Kabhie (1976) and the film masala Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and the fantasy film Dharam Veer (1977).
In the 70s and early 80s, her performance during the 70s and early 80s in Parvarish, Jaani Dushman, Kaala Patthar, and Yaarana were well-received.
She was nominated for most outstanding supporting actress for the film Kaala Patthar. The year 1983 was the first time she played as a character in Ganga Meri Maa.
After a long hiatus, Neetu Singh made her acting comeback in the role of a minor character for the movie Love Aaj Kal in 2009. In a comedic movie Do Dooni Chaar in 2010 she won an award in the form of a Zee Cine Award.
She appeared in Besharam and also made an role on Jab Tak Hai Jaan in 2012. In 2011 two of them Neetu Singh and Rishi Kapoor received the Zee Cine Award for Best Lifetime Jodi.
Early and Personal Life:
Neetu Singh was born the 8 8 July 1958 in Harneetkaur in New Delhi to Punjabi Jat Sikh Parents. Darshan Singh is her maternal grandmother, and Rajee Kaur Singh was her mother.
After the death of her father she began performing as an artist in her child years. She attended Hill Grange High School Mumbai.

Neetu Singh learned dance at Vyjayanthimala’s dancing school in Mumbai. When she was in 1966 Vyjayanthimala was able to spot her and offered her a role in Suraj as an artist for children. The year 1975 was the first time she was in the film alongside their mother Rajee Singh in the movie “Rani Aur Lalpari”.
While filming Kabhi Kabhi the two rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh had romantic relationships on-screen too.
On the 22 2nd the month of January, 1980, She was married to the an actor who is well-known and often collaboration partner Rishi Kapoor. In 1982 her wedding mandap was used in Rishi Kapoor’s film Prem Rog.
After the wedding, Neetu Singh retired from acting in line with Kapoor tradition. The couple has two children Riddhima Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.
Riddhima is a designer. She was married to the an industrialist from Delhi Bharat Sahani back in 2008.. Ranbir also appears in Hindi films.
The couple’s husband Rishi Kapoor died following a two years of battle with leukemia. He passed away in Mumbai on the 30 the April, 2020.
After their marriage, Neetu Singh retired from performing as per Kapoor tradition. The couple have two kids Riddhima Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor.
Riddhima is an fashion stylist who got married to an industrialist from Delhi Bharat Sahani back in 2008.. Ranbir also appears in Hindi films.
The couple’s husband Rishi Kapoor passed away following a two years of fighting leukemia. It happened in Mumbai on the 30 the April 2020.
Neetu Singh played her first leading role in Rickshawala alongside Randhir Kapoor in 1973. The film was a remake of the cult Tamil movie Rickshawkaran.
However, they were not able to match the popularity of the film. In the following year, she is able to gain attention for her performance in the hit track “Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’ from Yaadon Ki Bharaat, a blockbuster.

In 1975 and 1976, she appeared in the most acclaimed films Deewaar and Kabhi Kabhi. Both films were directed by renowned filmmaker Yash Chopra.
In Deewaar, she played opposite Shashi Kapoor, and for Kabhi Kabhi she was a part of Rishi Kapoor. Kabhi Kabhi was among the most critically acclaimed films of the time and is still loved for its music composed by Khayyam along with Sahir Ludhianvi.
The year 1977 was the year she had her biggest-selling film is Amar Akbar Anthony. The film produced by veteran film director Manmohan desai. She played the role of young doctor opposite Rishi Kapoor.
The same year, Desai was cast in the action film Dharam Veer opposite Jeetendra & another film Parvarish with Amitabh Bacchan . In both Dharam Veer as well as Amar Akbar Anthony & Parvarish were listed among the top five highest grossing films the year.
In the following years, she achieved success as a single female lead in films like Priyatama, Maha Badmaash, Dhongee & Chorni.
Neetu Singh was a part of a number of movies that are popular like Adalat, Kasme Vaade, Jaani Dushman, Kaala Patthar, The Burning Train, Yaarana, and Teesri Aankh.
In these films, she played alongside popular actors such as Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan, and Randhir Kapoor. She was awarded the first Filmfare nod in the film Yash Chopra’s Kaala Patther.
In 1980, she decided to retire from acting following her marriage with Rishi Kapoor. In the year 1980, her final film to be released was Ganga Meri Maa in 1983. In 2009, after a period of 25 years she was featured in an appearance as a cameo for Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal.
The year 2010 was her debut part-time lead role following retirement was an upper-middle class Punjabi mom in Do Dooni Chaar. The film by Habib Faisal was awarded an award called the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
In 2012 she made a memorable role in Yash Chopra’s final film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The year before, she appeared along with their son Ranbir Kapoor on the flop comedy film Besharam.
In all four of these films were starring her alongside their partner Rishi Kapoor. In 2020, she started performing as a character in Jug Jugg Jeeyo with Anil Kapoor, Varun Dhawan & Kiara Advani.
Controversy:
According to reports, the year 1997 was when Neetu Singh made a report against her husband over becoming violent after having consumed so many drinks.
In the end she denied the rumor and claimed that it was an unsubstantiated speculation. In an interview daughter Ranbir Kapoor stated the childhood he had was filled with troubles.
