If you’re interested in learning more about the various Islamic teachings on seeking Quranic knowledge, continue reading for four important things you should know about this topic.

Importance of Seeking Knowledge In Islam

A follower of Islam believes that it is necessary to live a whole and sound life, which encompasses many aspects of life. This includes one’s health, wealth, spirituality, relationships, etc. Islam teaches us that gaining knowledge is essential in all aspects of life.

The Holy Quran says: O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate…(Quran 49:6) The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was not only a messenger but also our teacher and guide.

1. Learning the Book of Allah (Quran)

One of the main teachings in Islam is seeking and gaining knowledge of the Quran. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) once said, “Seeking knowledge is mandatory for every Muslim”. Another Hadith, or teaching from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), states that Islam began as something strange and will return to being strange as it began, so give glad tidings to strangers.

Meaning that Islam had an unusual beginning but will ultimately be accepted by all people once again. At another place, He (PBUH) said, “The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Quran”. One of the ways you can seek Quranic knowledge is through online courses about Islam and by memorizing parts of it through a lesson study system available on this website.

2. The Rasul’s (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) Life and Mission

In light of what we have just learned about how seeking knowledge is such an important part of our religion, let us take a look at how Nabi Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wa Sallam) sought knowledge himself. For example, when he was orphaned at age six and needed to work to support himself, he would often go with other children in search of opportunities to earn money.

While doing so one day, he chanced upon some older men who were reading and memorizing something by which they seemed to be benefiting. He approached them and asked what they were doing, in response they invited him to join them.

3. Perseverance in Learning and Remembering

Once you’ve started seeking knowledge, it’s essential to stay committed. The Prophet Muhammad said that seeking knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim (male or female), but we all know that can be easier said than done. An oft-quoted hadith tells of a man who traveled from Makkah to Madinah to ask about Islam, eventually embracing it in front of Prophet Muhammad after being denied time and again.

After accepting Islam, he turned to other men and said, I have asked [the Prophet] again and again regarding certain things, and he has replied each time. In other words, keep seeking the knowledge!

4. Putting into Practice what you have learned

In Islam, seeking knowledge has been stated as being one of the fundamental commandments. It is something so important, that it takes its place after six major principles of Islam. Seekers of knowledge have also been promised Jannah, which means paradise or heaven in English.

You will never really be able to put into practice what you have learned unless you make an effort to learn more and put your faith into action. The perfect way to do so is by praying 5 times a day and reciting The Quran.

Quran is the only source of Holy Guidance

One of those teachings is that mankind was never left without a source of divine guidance. Allah specifically chose certain humans to serve as guides for their peers. One such individual is Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who Allah called, A mercy (Rahmat) for all nations [21:107].

By learning more about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), we can draw closer to God and gain guidance in our lives. As such, it’s important to seek his guidance by learning more about him. For example, one way you can learn more about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is by reading what he has taught through numerous Hadiths and books of Prophetic traditions.
