Each country has different rules for working hours and days depending on the culture and environment. The average number of hours worked in the world is between 30 and 40 hours per week. So, how many working days in a month in Indonesia? Check out the review below!

Working Day in Indonesia and the World

Every company has an ideal time to determine working hours. In Indonesia alone, the working hours in each office are between 9 and 10 hours per day.

But have you ever compared working hours in Indonesia with overseas?

Working Hours in Indonesia

As explained above, each company has a different amount in determining working hours. In Indonesia itself, the regulation regarding working hours has been stipulated in the Manpower Act.

For employees whose working days reach 6 days a week, the working hours are 7 hours/day or 40 hours/week.

Meanwhile, employees with 5 working days a week are required to work 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week.

Working Hours in the World

If you compare working hours in the world, such as in European countries such as France, Germany, and the Netherlands, the average number of hours worked in a week is only 30 hours.

Unlike Germany, this country has a fairly short working hour, which is only 4 hours a day. Although the working hours are short, it does not hinder the productivity of its people, which makes Germany one of the developed countries in the world.

Meanwhile, several countries in other parts of the world such as Mexico and South Korea apply the same working hours as Indonesia, which is 40 hours/week.

Meanwhile, if you look at working hours in Southeast Asia, reported by CNBC Indonesia which contains a report from the International Labor Organization (ILO), countries in the ASEAN region have the longest working hours in the world. One of the countries in Southeast Asia that has the longest working hours is Qatar with 49 hours per week.

Working Day Rules According to the Latest Law

The rules for working hours are regulated in Articles 77 to 85 of the Job Creation Law No. 11 of 2020 and Law No. 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower.

The provisions for working hours are divided into 2 divisions of working time, namely:

  • 7 working hours in 1 day or 40 working hours in 1 week (if in one week it reaches 6 working days)
  • 8 working hours in 1 day or 40 working hours in 1 week (if in one week it reaches 5 working days).

The regulated provisions only determine the number of working hours. The company can determine for themselves when the work starts and ends.

The Job Creation Law only adds a provision that the implementation of working time for employees or workers is regulated in work agreements, company regulations, or cooperation agreements as regulated in Article 81 Number 21

Counting Number of Working Days

To calculate the number of working days in a month or year is not stated in the Act, but we can calculate the number of working days with the following formula.

Number of Working Days in a Year

In a year there are 52 weeks, therefore the number of hours worked in a year can be calculated by:

52 weeks x 40 hours = 2080 hours worked in a year.

Because the division of work time according to the law there are 2 schemes, then to calculate the number of days in a year can be done by:

  • 52 weeks x 5 (number of working days in a week) = 260 working days in a year
  • 52 weeks x 6 (number of working days in a week) = 312 working days in a year

Number of Days in a Month

If viewed from the number of working days in a year, it can be determined the number of working days in a month by calculating:

  • 260 working days for a year / 12 months = 22 working days (companies with 5 working days a week)
  • 312 working days for a year / 12 months = 26 working days (companies with 6 working days a week)

This provision is the maximum limit allowed by the company. This means that the company may reduce working hours and may not increase the working hours of its employees. If the employee has to work outside the set hours, then the employee’s performance is calculated as overtime.
