Pickup trucks are undoubtedly among the most popular types of vehicle in Dubai, and with good reason. Whether you’re pick up rental dubai, renovating, or just want to get some more storage space in your garage, they’re able to do things many other cars simply can’t do—and they can do them well! However, renting one might seem like a difficult task because there are several different options available. To ensure you end up with the right pickup truck rental in Dubai, here’s what you need to know before you rent one yourself.
To rent or not to rent
When moving into or out of an apartment, deciding whether or not you’ll need a truck is not always clear. It might seem like it would be easier (and more convenient) to pay someone else to do it all for you, but there are things that can complicate (or even make impossible) renting a truck. For example, if your move is on short notice, most companies will charge you significantly more for pickup and delivery—in some cases as much as 50 percent or more. If you plan ahead and let them know your approximate schedule (the day before your scheduled pickup time is best), they can often accommodate last-minute changes for far less than if you wait until 30 minutes before pickup time.
Does your car qualify?
Make sure your car is up to par when it comes to rental. Car rental companies have different requirements for pickups and other vehicles, so do some research before you apply. The last thing you want is having your application denied due to a lack of seat belts or other safety features. Additionally, make sure that you know if there are additional fees for fuel, GPS navigation, additional drivers or luggage. Anything that’s not included can easily add hundreds of dollars onto your bill (which brings us back to our first point about researching)!
Booking and preparing for the day
Now that you’ve found your ideal rental, it’s time to call and book your truck. Typically, pickup trucks are available on weekly rental periods with pick-ups being reserved on Saturdays. One tip: If you need your truck early (e.g., for a construction project), call ahead and ask if they can move up your pick-up date by one day—often they will. Once your pickup date is confirmed, be sure to set aside plenty of time for preparation so you can hit the road on schedule.
Get ready before you drive off
To rent a pickup truck, you’ll need your license and passport and to provide payment information. You will also be required to leave a deposit equal to or greater than one month’s rental. This deposit is refundable as long as you return the vehicle within three days on weekdays or five days on weekends and holidays. If you exceed those time frames, they keep your deposit. Before heading out, make sure that you understand which vehicles are covered by each insurance policy. For example, cargo trucks are not covered under basic policies but can be added for an additional fee. Full-size pickups must have snow tires if operated during winter months; it’s wise to keep your own tire chains in case of emergency—both items may cost extra at rental time
Picking up the vehicle
The pickup truck rental office will generally be located at a rental company. It’s always best to call first and make sure they have what you need, whether it’s full-size pickups, SUVs or vans. If possible, bring someone with you when picking up your vehicle. The process can be confusing for anyone who has never rented an automobile before and it is often difficult for people from outside of North America and Europe to communicate effectively with employees over the phone. While not necessary, having someone there that can translate for you or facilitate communication will ensure that things go smoothly on your first visit.
Return at drop-off.
If you rent a pickup truck, be sure you understand how it works before you pick it up. That means knowing where and when you can return it, and keeping those details handy for reference. Otherwise, you might find yourself with fines, penalties or damage charges on your final bill. And if your trip is going to require an empty drop-off (for example, if you plan on shipping home souvenirs), be sure that’s clear before taking possession of your rental. Sometimes these costs are included in drop-off fees but not always—it’s good to know exactly what to expect at each stage of pickup and drop-off for an affordable Dubai moving experience.
