Helping people connect to the Internet by offering the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program


Federal government’s Emergency broadband benefit xfinity is a welcome further step to provide aid directly to those who are in need in order to allow them access to the potential to internet access. Comcast has a long-standing commitment to help people connect, and remain connected via the Internet and this federal program is a step towards the aim. This month, we began our 10th anniversary celebration of providing families with low incomes internet access at home via Internet Essentials. Since its inception in 2011 the program has connected to over 10 million people accessing internet access Internet in their homes, a majority at first. In the last year, we have increased our efforts. As the outbreak of the epidemic within the United States, we moved quickly to make sure that residents of our service area who were at greatest the risk being disconnected had a variety of ways to access the internet:

  • We’ve opened over 1.5 million of the public Emergency broadband benefit xfinity, which is the biggest network like this in the nation and open to anyone at no cost, even those who are not Xfinity customers.
  • We collaborated with local community groups to establish numerous WiFi connected Lift Zones throughout the United States With the aim of 1,000 before the year’s end in 2021.
  • We developed our Internet Essentials Partnership Program to offer schools and other institutions the opportunity to provide Internet Essentials service for large student groups.
  • We gave the first Internet Essentials customers free service for 60 days.
  • We developed our Xfinity Assistance Program, which helped keep customers in touch, eliminated late fees, and created payment plans, as well as prior balance forgiveness.

  • Participate in tribal programs that are specific to your tribe for example. Those offered by the Office of General Assistance for Indian Affairs. Tribal TANF and The Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations.
  • You have been approved to be eligible for benefits under the school’s free or reduced-price breakfast or lunch program. As well as through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision for the 2020-2021, 2019-202020 or 2021-2022 year of school.
  • Received the Federal Pell Grant during the current year of award.
  • You are eligible for participation in the existing low-income program.
