The difficulty of the Geochala trek varies from moderate to difficult. The trek starts from Yuksom town which is located in West Sikkim. It is not that much recommended for beginners as it is located at an altitude of 15,000 ft above sea level. It takes almost 10-11 days to cover the whole distance of the Goechala trek, which is quite a long time.

The most prevalent path that passengers can take with their expertise, feasibility, and ease of use is the one that leads to Dzongri via Phedang, all the way to Thangsing, all way to Goechala. Alternatively, one can miss Dzongri and walk up and down in Phedang, but that would just take away the core of the trip.



  • Drive to Yuksom

                         Then rest in a guest house after the long hour drive.

  • Yuksom to Sachen

The first destination you arrived, at having the dense forests and spots yaks and mules there and also you see the stunning Tshushay Khola Waterfalls.

  • Sachen to Tshoka 

Here you enjoy captivating nature with a waterfall and an incredible view.

  • Tshoka to Dzongri 

Starting from climbing routes reach the Phedang which leads to Dzongri.

  • Rest and hike to Dzongri La Pass which is 4417 m high

Stepping up further will find the steep and rocky ascend, and the path leads to snowy mountains and the place of Buddhist worship.

  • Dzongri to Thansing

Enjoying the exquisite views gives a chilling mood and continuous ascent to the Thansing.

  • Thansing to Goecha La Pass and vice versa.

Reaching the thansing has the only source of water to drink. When you arrive at the lake then the path gets narrow, and the climbing gets difficult.

  • Thansing to Tshoka

Due to the less existence of oxygen at the peak, the trek back off to the starting point and now the descending trek started and is also faster so takes less time to reach Tshoka.

  • Tshoka to Yuksom

The descending trek will give you relaxation and also takes less time to cover the distance.

  • Drive back to Siliguri

Here are your 7 days of 92 km trekking ends, and you will feel the real essence of the wonderful days.


 The best means of transport to arrive at Yokusam Base Camp are by plane and train. 


  •  By plane: Many communities reach the nearby Bagdogra Airport. You can arrive at the airport and take a taxi to Yokusam. Yokusam is  155 km away and takes 6-7 hours.


  •  By train: Situated in the heart of Siliguri, West Bengal, New Jalpaiguri Junction is the closest railway station to Sikkim, which connects to other major cities. Juxam is 150 km far from it and is nearly 6 hours by cable from New Jarpaigli Junction.
