CRS calculator or Comprehensive Ranking System is a tool adopted by IRCC – Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for assessing immigration applications. It is used for ranking profiles of candidates over each other in the Express Entry pool.
Cities in Canada are regarded as among the most livable places globally. Their welcoming multicultural communities and lucrative career options attract immigrants across the world.
If you also wish to immigrate to Canada and obtain the Permanent Resident status, you must understand the following 3 key aspects:
- CRS calculator
- IELTS band required for Canada
- Canada NOC list
CRS Calculator
CRS calculator is a system based on points that offer scores to candidates based on various factors:
- Age
- Language ability
- Work experience
- Education
- Ties to Canada
The Government of Canada conducts Express Entry draws roughly once in 2 weeks. It offers Invitations to Apply for Canada PR Visa to candidates in the pool having the highest CRS scores.
No least CRS score is specified for entering the pool of candidates in Express Entry. The cut-off CRS score differs from one draw to another and can decrease or increase based on various factors. Thus, the higher your CRS score; the higher your chances of obtaining ITA.
Ways to increase CRS score
As an immigration candidate, you have multiple ways to increase your CRS score after entering the Express Entry Pool. Your score in the CRS calculator is greatly influenced by your language proficiency, age, work experience, and education. You can also claim extra points for:
- Presence of siblings in Canada
- Advanced proficiency in French or English
- Obtaining a job offer in Canada
- Receiving nomination form a PNP – Provincial Nominee Program
Obtaining extra points through any of the above factors can greatly increase your chances of obtaining the ITA. This is in one of the subsequent draws held under Canada Express Entry.
PNPs for increasing CRS score
Provincial Nominee Programs or PNPs offer Canada PR Visa pathways to candidates in the Express Entry pool who have low CRS scores. If you obtain a nomination from a PNP, you can obtain extra 600 points towards your CRS score. It essentially assures receiving ITA for Canada PR Visa.
Each PNP has unique eligibility criteria for applicants. Many of the PNPs specify some kind of association with the province for qualifying to file the application. Some seek candidates who can cater to the gaps in the labor market or gaps in demography. If you receive ITA through a PNP, you are expected to settle in that specific province that has nominated you.
IELTS Score Minimum Requirements
You have to appear for the IELTS General Training Test for proving your proficiency in English. It is the preferred test for Canadian immigration. Express Entry has 3 programs that offer Canada PR Visa:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Canadian Experience Class
IRCC takes 6 months for processing your Canada PR visa application. You must ensure that the results of your IELTS have a minimum validity of 6 months. For Canada PR Visa through Express Entry you require at least CLB 7 proficiency in English. It means at least 6 bands score in every section of IELTS.
The language proficiency requirements differ based on the program. Your skills in language are assessed for 4 components: Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening. The points you are allocated are as per Canadian Language Benchmark – CLB Level.
National Occupation Classification
National Occupation Classification or NOC is a system of code used by the Government of Canada. It is used for offering structure for analysis and assessment of occupations in Canada. NOC code consists of 4 digits.
